FAQs for employers

ECE Voice is powered by NZEI Te Riu Roa.

WHAT IS ECE VOICE?

We are campaigning for fair pay for early childhood teachers. Teachers in the early childhood sector have the same qualifications, skills and experience as kindergarten, primary and secondary school teachers. But even after two additional funding increases, they still get paid less. This isn’t okay. We’re asking the government to accelerate implementing a stepped-out pay plan for parity. We need your support to fix the pay gap in early childhood.

What does ADDING MY VOICE mean?

Adding your voice is the first step you can take to support early childhood teachers. You are adding your voice to support fair pay for ECE teachers.

By adding your voice, you also agree to receive updates on our plan to get early childhood teachers paid fairly and other ways you can be involved in the campaign. Add your voice here.

What ELSE CAN I DO TO SUPPORT GETTING TEACHERS AT MY CENTRE PAID WHAT THEY’RE WORTH?

For change to happen we have to get the government on board and supporting teachers, they have to increase the funding for teacher salaries. Getting the word out and into our communities is an important part of this.

WHERE CAN i FIND A COPY OF THE EARLY CHILDHOOD COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT (ECECA)?

You can find the Collective Agreement here.

Find out more about the ECECA here.

HOW CAN MY CENTRE BE PART OF THE ECECA?

The ECECA is a multi-employer collective agreement, all of the employers that are party to it have opted in. It has incremental pay increases and covers things like non-contact and professional development, things we know are essential for a quality ECE environment.

You can find an opt in form here and if you have any question about the collective and what it could mean for your centre, give us a call on 0800 693 443.
